What is the AI Office of Ireland?

Why a coordinating office was needed
A distributed enforcement model has one obvious weakness: the same obligation can be read differently by different regulators. An AI system used in recruitment and an AI system used in lending both engage Annex III, and organisations should not face materially different expectations depending on which authority happens to supervise them.
A national coordinating office exists to reduce that divergence, to hold the relationship with the European Commission's AI Office, and to give organisations a recognisable point of reference for national implementation.
What it does not change
Coordination is not consolidation. Sectoral authorities retain their own supervisory and enforcement powers over the organisations they already regulate, and the substantive obligations continue to come from the Regulation itself.
For an organisation, the operational requirement is unchanged: know your systems, know your role, classify defensibly, control proportionately, and be able to evidence all of it.
